How to complete your Backerkit Survey - A step by step guide

In the coming days you will receive your BackerKit survey.

This update is a complete step-by-step guide to completing it. Please remember you need to complete the survey to receive your rewards. The BackerKit survey is where we confirm your pledge level, address details and any optional purchases. It's also where we charge for shipping.

We will send an update out when the survey is sent out and how to track down any lost links!

For this guide we will use an example backer who lives in the US, who has backed at the Towns & Taverns pledge level and pledged £39. 

This is the first screen you will see. This screen shows you your pledge amount (your funds via Kickstarter) and your current pledge level. 

Important to note - If you want to change pledge level This is where to do it! Just below the Get Started button is a link to 'switch your pledge level'

Make any amends you require then click Get Started

If you have backed a digital pledge level this will take you straight through to the Add-On optional purchases screen, so you can skip ahead! All backers with Physical Books this is where you select your theme for the decals (remember there's one free pack per set of books so if you have the 'Twice the Towns & Taverns' you choose 2 sets, 'Towns & Taverns' and 'Towns & Taverns Plus' choose 1 set). 

 Then click Next: Add-ons

Add-Ons Screen

Now we're at the Add-Ons screen where you can select any optional purchases.  

If you have a Physical pledge level this is where you can select additional pledge level bundles to add to your pledge. The shipping cost is set by your pledge level so optional purchases do not increase the shipping. (Please note that in order to add-on a 'Twice the Towns & Taverns' bundle you must have selected the Twice the Towns & Taverns pledge level, which you can switch to if required).

You can select extra decal sheets and Little Books here.

You can also add on our existing books and planned releases (remember this Kickstarter ships in December and we will ship everything together even though our books are available in local hobby stores now).

You can also select digital add-ons, if you are a digital only backer you will only have the option of the digital optional purchases, unless you switch to a physical pledge level.

When you have everything you want please click Next. If you've added on any extra pledge levels there will be a section asking you to choose which decal pack(s) you want.

Shipping Screen 

This is where you put in your address and confirm it. Some of our couriers cannot deliver to PO addresses so please avoid using a PO or we may have to contact you before shipping to arrange shipping to an alternative address which may delay shipping.

Confirmation Screen

Please can you take the time to review the Pledge Items. This is a breakdown of exactly what is included in your pledge level so please check and make sure this is what you were expecting. Add On Optional Purchases are listed below this for anything you have added to your pledge.

This screen is where you pay for any optional purchases and shipping if you did not pledge the extra as part of the Kickstarter. You will be able to see the total of pledge level, shipping and optional purchases and the credit carried across from Kickstarter.

This shows the credit card option and when we go live you will also be able to pay by PayPal. Please note the credit card option won't charge straight away, it'll charge approximately two weeks later.

What happens next?

Right now Kickstarter have just handed you and the funds across to us. We have now completed our first testing stage for the BackerKit survey so we've now submitted it for BackerKit approval. Once this comes back we test it one final time with live backer data ("smoke test") then once we confirm everything is working correctly we can send it out. We go through all this testing to ensure the survey work just how we need it to.

Getting ready for the pledge manager and another look at a map in detail!

Thanks for being so patient!

We've been working flat out on getting the maps finalised and getting the pledge manager survey working.

As a quick reminder for those who are new here, the pledge manager (we're using BackerKit) is where:

  • You confirm/select your pledge level (you can change from the pledge level you selected in Kickstarter).
  • You make any choices, like which theme to have for any free decal pack(s). 
  • You can select any optional purchases such as extra decal packs or books.
  • You confirm your address.
  • You pay shipping charges.

The next update will be an in depth look at completing your survey. We will include FAQ and screen shots, however if there is anything you're not sure about please do reach out.

Charging cards and getting ready for BackerKit

This update is a little housekeeping and a reminder of what is happening now.

Right now Kickstarter is charging cards. This can take up to 2 weeks and its important to note that Kickstarter don't "hand you over" to us until cards are charged and they transfer the money.

This means that any issues with charging cards, and if you want to change anything at this stage, needs to be done via Kickstarter customer support.

You can find a FAQ here https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us and if you click the contact us button on the top right of the KS page it will take you to a Q&A and a raise a ticket option.

I am afraid we will not be able to help resolve any issues with card payments and pledge changes at this stage, we will have to direct you to Kickstarter.

We are working on our pledge manager

Just a reminder that for our pledge manager we will be using Backerkit. When we open the pledge manager we will send each of you a link to your survey where we will ask you to

  • Confirm your pledge level (you will be able to change pledge level)
  • select your reusable decal pack (for physical pledges)
  • Select any optional purchases you would like (I have pinned the update where we give you more details on what will be available for reference)
  • Confirm your shipping address
  • Pay Shipping charges

We (well Matt) is also locked in the studio finishing the maps. We both work at home anyway and one benefit of the social isolation we're experiencing here in the UK is that he's being very productive!

The Elephant in the room

Of course the world is not as it was when we started our journey together. First and foremost we wish you all health and happiness as we get through this.

In terms of how this will affect our schedule I have given an overview of the situation as we know it today and attempted to predict where we will be later in the year. Of course this is subject to change.

  • Manufacture (China). 

Currently we know our factory is operating normally as we have orders processing and shipping as we speak and we have had this project booked in with them for a while now so we know we can proceed with manufacture with no major delays, although there are some things are currently a little harder than usual in China, for example sourcing paper.

  • Shipping

International freight shipping has had a rough few months and is subject currently to 3-4 week port delays (getting containers onto ships). We'll be watching this to see how the situation develops. 

  • Fulfilment

Even in our current "locked down" state in the UK our couriers are still working, although those heroes are seeing a huge increase in demand so be kind to your delivery guys.

We will be reviewing the situation as we near the fulfilment stage and obviously the priority will be the health and safety of the warehouse workers in the fulfilment centres who pick, pack and post your pledges. We will adjust the timeline as needed to ensure these teams are available and able to work maintaining whatever social isolation is appropriate at the time.

We're not expecting to fulfil this Kickstarter until the end of the year where we hope the global situation will have stabilised.

We are going to make these books absolutely awesome!

So what is going to happen now?

Firstly Kickstarter is going to charge cards. This can take up to 2 weeks and its important to note that Kickstarter don't "hand you over" to us until cards are charged and they transfer the money.

After 2-3 weeks all cards will have been charged and Kickstarter hand you across to us. This is when we launch the BackerKit Pledge Manager.

Before we launch the pledge manager we will send out a step by step guide to completing your survey with screen shots so you know what to expect.

The pledge manager will remain open until we near fulfillment. This means that if you are not in a position to commit immediately you don't have to. Simply don't complete your survey.

We will lock & charge completed surveys on a monthly basis starting 2 months after we launch the pledge manager, then every month thereafter.

You will have the option to pay via credit card or PayPal.

Digital content delivery

In the current climate we are aware that a lot of gaming will be going online. In order to help with this we will be sending out the digital Towns & Taverns package codes as soon as possible to all backers who selected a pledge level in the KS. We will not wait for surveys to be completed.

We expect to send the digital codes out at the end of April once Matt is happy with the map designs and signs them off.

The digital content will come via an emailed code link from DriveThruRPG. We will tell you when we are sending it out so you know to check all those rarely used and interesting email folders these emails like to end up in.

First and foremost thank you all for your support of Towns & Taverns!

Our Final Stretch Goal

So we didn't quite make it to the final stretch goal, however we're certain we'll make up the difference when BackerKit opens, so we're going to unlock it anyway.

This means you'll have a choice between 'Town Trimmings', 'Magic Effects' and 'War & Siege' for each decal pack you have.

This also means that 'Digital Towns & Taverns' will have tokens added for all three decal sets.  

What Happens Next?

We will pop out an update with a detailed look at the next steps so you know what to expect and when.

In a nutshell we will be getting our pledge manager (BackerKit) ready, which is where we will get your shipping details, charge shipping and make add-ons available. But more on that to follow.

Just so you know it will take Kickstarter up to 2 weeks to charge your card so please don't panic if its not immediate!!

For tonight lets celebrate what an amazing campaign we have had together and start getting excited about playing on these great books!!
